Patol's Transit Heat Sensor Receives Atex Certification

The 5610 infra-red transit heat sensor from Patol has been awarded ATEX and IECEx certification for use in hazardous areas with the potential for dust explosion. It is housed within an explosion-proof Exd enclosure inside which any internal explosion or electrical problem would remain restricted in order to prevent propagation to any potentially explosive atmosphere outside.

The sensor is part of the 5000 Series from Patol, suppliers of a wide range of safety-related equipment and systems based in Reading, Berkshire.

Patol Fire Detection For Colombian Coal Conveying

An automatic fire detection system from Patol has been selected to protect the main conveyer belt which handles 75% of the mining production volume at one of the world’s largest thermal coal producers.

Patol is supplying the detector from its Series 5000 air purged range, specifically developed to provide early warning of fire in conveyors and transport systems through infra-red monitoring technology, importantly before a flame condition is reached. It is being installed on the coal belt conveyor BC-201 for Carbones del Cerrejόn Limited at their integrated mining and transport complex in La Guajira, northern Colombia. With Colombia being the fourth largest exporter of coal in the world and Cerrejόn Columbia’s largest privately operated exporter, the system will prove invaluable in ensuring optimum safety for the mine and its workforce.

Patol Helps Protect UK’s Nuclear Power



The expertise of fire detection solutions provider Patol in the manufacture of linear heat detection cable (LHDC) systems has been recognised in a project to help protect the Hinkley Point B Nuclear Power Station.

Placed by site licensee and operator, EDF Energy - one of the largest suppliers of energy to homes and businesses throughout the United Kingdom - the order was for the supply, installation and commissioning of the LHDC fire detection system. The system is now installed to protect cable flats and risers in the power station.

Patol Wins Order To Help Protect New Italian Road Tunnel From Fire


Patol, the privately owned British fire safety equipment and systems manufacturer, has recently won yet another order from Italian company, Raet Limited. Raet is based in Sieci in Tuscany and installs technological systems in road and rail tunnels. The company's recent order to Patol was for the provision of linear heat detecting cable (LHDC) and DDL digital location devices for a major road project.

Patol Cable At Heart Of Fire Safety For New Solvent Recovery Facility


A new solvent recovery unit at one of the world’s largest multinational pharmaceutical companies is to be protected from the threat of fire by a detection system from Patol.

Patol have been awarded the contract to manufacture, supply and commission an analogue linear heat detection cable (LHDC) fire detection system for the new unit at the Avlon site of AstraZeneca, a FTSE 100 company and the world’s fifth largest manufacturer of prescription drugs.

The contract for Patol was from the Boulting Group and is part of a 12 month project awarded to the multi-disciplined engineering solutions provider to install the new solvent recovery process at the site near Bristol, the manufacturing home of the Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) for two of AstraZeneca’s key medicines.
