Patol Sensors Protect Glass Coating Lines

December 2014

Patol Glasscoat web

Patol, the global leader in the design and manufacture of specialist fire detection products for industrial applications, is now supplying 5610 Series infra-red transit heat sensors to Glasscoat International.  Glasscoat International of Dudley in the West Midlands, designs, develops, manufactures and commissions organic glass coating machinery - on which the Patol 5610 sensors are now being fitted.

Controlling the Glasscoat line

Glasscoat International designs and builds systems that are dedicated to the glass industry with expertise in high voltage electrostatic systems, providing stand-alone coating machines, turn-key finishing plant or extensive facilities to match customers’ requirements.  On the company’s glass coating machines, the glass bottles travel on a conveyor through a curtain of flames before entering the paint-coating chamber.  It is at this point that the Patol 5610 is installed, connected to the line’s automation system.  The sensor will quickly bring the whole line to a stop if abnormally high temperatures are detected.  It is ideally suited to this application as it only senses moving heat and remains uninfluenced by any stationary heat generated by the equipment in the surrounding area.  Should an incident occur, extinguishing systems can be swiftly and effectively applied to deal with the beginnings of the fire before it gains a hold.
